double [double] standards [standards], conspiracy, and h y p o c r i s y
a relationship is supposed to be fifty-fifty, right? wrong! wrong! a functional relationship is fifty-fifty, emphasis on the functional. mine, in accordance with most other things in my life, is not. it's full of dumb double standards, conspiracies, and hypocrisy. not to say that its all bad, but the things that are bad are pretty big deals.
things like the fact that he feels unappreciated when i just up and leave without telling him in advance or telling him where i am going and who i am going with. i used to do it all the time and he flipped shit, so i made it a habit to tell him these things. so why is it that he can do it and when i ask i either get a look like i just sprouted another head or an answer like "i'm going away for a while". and then when i ask further questions he gets offended like i'm accusing him of something, which is not the case. all i want for my peace of mind is to know where he will be. what if something happens and no one knows where to find him since i'm usually the only one who knows where he is going? besides, why all the defensiveness and ambiguity? is there something i should be accusing him of? is there really any woman out there who can tell me that that sort of thing wouldn't have raised a red flag?
or maybe that when i'm being quiet something just has to be wrong, but when he does it its perfectly fine. why is it okay for him to not want to talk to me but i'm forced to talk to him whether i feel like it or not? that's just not cool. some times, not often, i really don't feel like talking. its not because something is wrong, there isn't anything on my mind, i just don't have anything to say. but when i question him on his silence he gets mad, like i'm forcing him to converse with me. he should know better than anyone that i refuse to force anyone to do anything where i am concerned. if you don't want to talk to me than don't talk to me. just don't get upset when i don't want to talk to you.
ooh, here's another one. his friends can come over all willy-nilly but my friends should ask him beforehand rather than showing up unannounced. what the fxck is that? why should that be allowed? if anthony, chris, phil, tone, lamont, dave, and brian can show up without him consulting me then why the hell can't momo come over without his permission? that is one of the most unfair things i have ever heard of in my entire life. i'm not even supposed to bring my niece over without discussing it with him though i do it anyway, then he gets pissed. fuck no, we are equals and its not going down like that.
here's a dumb one. he gets upset when i sleep facing away from him. he huffs and puffs until i turn back around regardless of how comfortable it may or may not be. but when he sleep practically on the other side of the room i'm not supposed to question it. when i do i get a response like "...because i wanted to?" and a mean look. that's the immature shit that gets on my nerves on a constant basis. i'm over three years younger here, i hate when he acts like a child.
i hate it when people ask those girls that stay in horrible relationships why it is exactly that they stay and all they can say is "because i love him". if things are so difficult then why do i stay you ask? firstly, its not all bad. he does these things, then turns around and does something so incredibly sweet that i forget what it was he did that pissed me off in the first place. secondly, sadly because i love him. one never really understands that response until they find themselves stuck in a similar situation and there really is no better answer.
